Orgone in Bellingham Monday September 1st, $5 advance $10 at the door

August 28, 2008 Events, Music No Comments

EVERY MONDAY THE WILD BUFFALO IS TRANSFORMED INTO THE LUCKY LOUNGE WITH YOU HOST JOEL RICCI

http://www. myspace. com/joelricci

MONDAY SEPTEMBER 1ST HE WILL BE JOINED BY A VERY VERY SPECIAL GUEST GROUP BY THE NAME OF ORGONE. HERE IS A LINK TO THERE PAGE AND WHAT SOME OF RECENT REVIEWS THEY HAVE GOTTEN.

http://www. myspace. com/orgonemusic

“Sounding much like a cross between The Dap-Kings and Breakestra (with whom they share several members), L.A.’s Orgone keeps the hotness of the recent retro-soul revival coming; lead singer Fanny Franklin fits in very nicely between Sharon Jones and Amy Winehouse. As befits the band’s name, Orgone’s sound is quite organic, rooted in soul, funk, boogaloo, and jazz, with a classic appeal that’s nevertheless contemporary…the entire album is one non-stop groove. If smooth, soulful funk with jazzy arrangements makes you sweat, you just found your new favorite band.
”
- XLR8R

“By the time the listener gets to the nasty, distorted, finger-popping, ass waggling “Crabby Ali” — where the deep brewed, second-line New Orleans old-school funk goes head to head with the gloss of L.A.’s Tower of Power styled horn charts — it feels like the party’s just getting started.
”
- All Music

“Orgone recalls acts like Fela Kuti, Trouble Funk, and War, but with a heavy dose of disco, as on Killion’s “Dialed Up,” where the deep groove and diva vocals are so authentic, they could be samples.
”
- The Onion / A.V.
Club

“Their music is terrifically unfussy, big slabs of grizzled R&B, greasy as fatback and thick as a very particular kind of smoke. At their best, they recall the majesty of Sly & the Family Stone; opening track “Who Knows Who” is all bleary horns and broken-heart vocals, “It’s What You Do” is a tight, itchy jam. There’s still a riot goin’ on, and Orgone is at the front of the crowd.
”
- eMusic

“It’s easy to imagine The Killion Floor both igniting mass partying and stoking libidos for more intimate gatherings.
”
- OC Weekly

“Orgone has provided all the elemental power to drive the funk/soul revival to new levels with The Killion Floor…Orgone will invigorate your groove spirit and get booty out of its little box and out on the dancefloor.
”
- KEXP, 90.
3FM (SEATTLE)

This group is amazing, they have backed many a hip hop legend from Bun B to The Pharcyde.
The Show is only $5 advance or $10 at the door, so get your tickets early! They are available @ The Wild Buffalo!

“The Sweaty Sweaters make mathy experimental rock human - what else can I say? (Other than I’d like to see them live or get in their heads and find the source of this gorgeous, gripping madness.) They could easily start a youth movement, but they also could just make you smile. And sweat.”

-Katherine Hoffert
Managing Editor
West Coast Performer Magazine

Summer Meltdown

July 29, 2008 Events, Music No Comments

The Eighth Annual Summer Meltdown returns August 8-10 for its third year at the beautiful Whitehorse Mountain Amphitheater in Darrington, WA, nestled in the foothills of the Cascade mountains.

Anchored and headlined by the stellar talent of Flowmotion – a Seattle band quickly rising to national stature – this year’s Meltdown features a rich blend of over 25 national acts and local independent favorites. Featuring national musicians like avant garde guitar-slasher Buckethead, the emerging brilliance that is San Francisco’s Tea Leaf Green, Matt Butler’s Everyone Orchestra featuring Steve Kimock and members of ALO, and the inimitable stylings of That 1 Guy, the festival also offers a diverse sampling of local independent acts like 2007 “American Idol” star Blake Lewis returning home in his pre-Idol incarnation as the beat-boxing B-Shorty, McTuff (featuring Skerik, Joe Doria, Andy Coe and Dvonne Lewis), The Panda Conspiracy, Handful of Luvin’, The Staxx Brothers, even Seattle’s favorite kid’s band, Recess Monkey.

In addition to the impressive line-up and the fellowship of good people – over 3,000 people attended the festival last year – festival co-producer Terra Roots Foundation brings back the Green Village with exhibits like “Building with Cob” and environmental and social outreach. The foundation is a non-profit advocating Sustainable Living, Responsible Action and Creating Community through grants to local musicians and artists and community organizations. To that end, the Second Annual Meltdown Food Drive will benefit Darrington Community Services and Food Bank, and the foundation will give support to the Darrington Family Support and Resource Center.

The festival encourages families to join in the fun with a dedicated kid’s play and activity area, an organized parade leading to a special show by the wonderful Recess Monkey, the Little Seahorse Showcase (young people performing live) and more. The spacious campsites stay cool beneath tall cedars, kids like to splash in the stream on the grounds, and everyone looks up to the glacier-capped Whitehorse Mountain, looming over all.

The continued efforts of the Meltdown organizers and volunteers has resulted in a strange twist. What remains the very definition of a homegrown, grassroots affair – in its first year the festival was held on a friend’s property on San Juan island, and since then it has built and outgrown several locations — has produced a cadre of seasoned veterans, pros with eight years of festival production under their belt. It’s an elite group of outfits that has that kind of experience, and it shows. The Summer Meltdown has quietly grown into the biggest camping festival in Western Washington.

Traditionally, this event has been a celebration of art, life and community. Flowmotion’s Josh Clauson says “Meltdown is based on coming together, renewing the sense of community – the idea of ‘all one people’ becomes reality for a weekend, and people carry that with them when they leave.”

Rebelution in Bellingham

June 15, 2008 Events, Music 1 Comment

image.jpg

Rebelution first united in Santa Barbara, California, built from a wide array of musical backgrounds. With Reggae as the focus, the group set out to create a fresh and vibrant sound which they dub California Reggae. The band released their highly anticipated full-length album in June of 2007 and just weeks after its release, Courage to Grow became one of the most downloaded Reggae albums on iTunes. By the end of the year, it had been awarded the iTunes Editors Choice: Best Reggae Album 2007.

“Apparently, California Reggae is hot. Stemming from a foundation of local support, Rebelution soared into iTunes Reggae Top 10 (album downloads), amongst some lofty company. Lofty like Bob, Stephen, and Damian Marley.”

The show at the Callaloo was amazing and Rebelution lived up to the hype. Make sure to check out the photos of the show.
